HILL HELPS CHIEFS SEIZE TOP SPOT
07/21/2012 - 10:31pm

(July 21, 2012)… The Six Nations Chiefs closed out the regular season with a 16-6 victory over the Ajax Rock to overtake Brooklin for first overall in Major Series Lacrosse.

Six Nations (9-4-1) clinched the West Division with Thursday’s win, and moved past the Brooklin Redmen with 19 points. The East Division-leading Redmen (9-4-0) are one point behind Six Nations for first overall, and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, with one regular season game to play. Brooklin concludes its regular season schedule with a game next Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. against the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks.

Rochester Knighthawks’ forward Alex “Kedoh” Hill scored three goals, including the game-winner, and added two assists in the Chiefs’’ road win. Colin Doyle led Six Nations with eight points (2+6), and got five-point efforts from Stephan Leblanc (2+3) and Kasey Beirnes (2+3). Brandon Miller made 36 saves to pick up the win.

Besides Hill, three other Knighthawks contributed to the Chiefs’ win. Craig Point scored one goal and chipped in three assists, while Travis Hill recorded one goal and one assist. Defenseman Sid Smith also chipped in with one assist. Point ended the regular season fourth on the team with 34 points, which was one behind Hill.

In the regular-season finale, Six Nations and Ajax traded goals early in the contest as the Rock forced three ties. Doyle’s goal at 12:41 gave the Chiefs their fourth lead of the game, and fueled a 3-0 run to end the first period. With the score 6-3, Six Nations netted the next six goals to move ahead 9-3 in the second period. The 9-0 run was powered by two goals and one assist from Hill. He scored the eventual game-winning goal at 4:11 from Doyle and Point.

Ajax responded with three straight goals to cut the deficit in half, 12-6, in the third period. But Six Nations rebounded with four straight goals by four different goals scorers as Doyle, Beirnes, Leblanc and Hill all tallied for the Chiefs.
