SUNDAY NIGHT LACROSSE FOR KNIGHTHAWKS
07/29/2012 - 1:41pm

(July 29, 2012)… Joe Walters won’t spend his Sunday lying on the couch watching the Olympics. Instead, he will be playing his third lacrosse game in three days. The Knighthawks forward is in Kitchener with the Brampton Excelsiors, as they try to even their best-of-five Major Series Lacrosse Semifinal.

Walters, who played field lacrosse for the Hamilton Nationals Saturday, rejoins the Excels. He is one of nine Knighthawks players and two coaches that are in MSL Semifinal Games this evening. The defending Mann Cup Champion Excelsiors not only boast rising star Joe Walters, but Tyler Burton, Mike Kirk, Dylan Evans, Jake Henhawk and Matt Vinc. The team also includes Knighthawks Head Coach Mike Hasen and Assistant Coach Pat O’Toole.

Brampton will take on defenseman Jamie Batson and the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks at 7:00 p.m. Batson completed his rookie season with the Knighthawks in 2012 and has burst onto the Major Series this summer as one of the top rookies. The Kodiaks rallied for a 10-8 victory in Game 1 of the series Friday night.

In the other Semifinal, the Peterborough Lakers look to take a 2-0 series lead over the Ajax Rock. In the opener, Rochester’s Brad Self and Cory Vitarelli each had impressive games. Self scored three times, while Vitarelli scored twice and added two assists. The game is a 7:00 p.m. start.
