(August 3, 2012)… Rochester native and Knighthawks forward Joe Walters will kick off the first of two local lacrosse camps on Monday, August 6th. Kids will have opportunity to learn from the three-time World Champion and four-time college All-American.
Walters, who recently won the 2012 National Lacrosse League Championship with the Rochester Knighthawks, will partner with Knighthawks teammate and two-time NCAA National Champion Joel White to present an offense/defense academy.
The camp is scheduled from Monday, August 6th to Wednesday August 8th with sessions running from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. daily. The Joe Walters/Joel White Offense/Defense Academy will take place at the American Legion in Greece at 344 Dorsey Road. There is no age limit, and the entrance fee is $100. “This is a specialized clinic Joel White and I designed that thoroughly breaks down offensive and defensive skills, technique, and team strategy,” said Walters, who also plays for the Major League Lacrosse Hamilton Nationals. “I am very excited to team up with Joel. He is a terrific instructor, as we share the same values and emphasis on teaching.”
White currently plays defense for the Rochester Rattlers (MLL). He was a standout at Syracuse University, where he was a three-time All-American. Walters played his college lacrosse at the University of Maryland after a successful career at Irondequoit High School. He had a breakout NLL season in 2012, finishing second on the team with 13 points in the playoffs.
In addition, Walters will host his annual Sharp Shooter Academy from Monday, August 13th to Tuesday, August 14th at Total Sports Experience from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day. The shooting specialty camp is limited to 30 students. The cost is $150 and includes a Nike Dri-FIT Academy shirt. The first 15 students to register will also receive a free STX Proton Power. There are no age requirements or limitations, but lacrosse experience is required. Click here to download the flyer.
“This is purely instructional as I thoroughly break down the art and science of shooting, using video analysis to show each student what they are doing right and wrong,” said Walters.
