KNIGHTHAWKS CONTINUE THEIR SUCCESS AT NATIONS CUP
09/14/2012 - 9:08pm

(September 14, 2012)… The Rochester Knighthawks players opened the second day of the 15th Annual Nations Cup in Akwesasne with three straight wins. The 2012 World Champs are a collective 3-1 in the eight-team Native tournament at the Anowara'kowa Arena (Turtle Dome).

The two-time defending champion Ohsweken Aces are out to a 2-0 start to stand atop the Western Door Division. They have been fueled by five members of the Knighthawks. The Aces downed the North Shore Indians 26-4 in the opening game this afternoon and finished off the day with a 17-11 victory over the Snake Island Muskies.

Cody Jamieson, Craig Point, Travis Hill, Alex “Kedoh” Hill and Jake Henhawk all played key roles in the pair of wins. “Kedoh” Hill led the Aces in the win over the Indians with an impressive nine-point (4+5) performance. The Knighthawks combined for 18 points in the game. In the nightcap, Ohsweken erased a 6-4 first-period deficit to take a 12-7 advantage into the final period. “Kedoh” Hill continued his torrid pace with a five-point game (2+3). He teamed up with former Knighthawk Cory Bomberry (1+4) and Roger Vyse (3+3) of the Buffalo Bandits to lead the Aces to their second straight win.

Johnny Powless, who is playing on the other team from Six Nations, helped the Frog Pond Maulers earn a hard-fought 14-9 win over the Caughnawaga Injuns. In their second game Saturday, the Maulers battled the St. Regis Indians in a showdown for first place in the Eastern Door Division. The Indians (2-0) used goals by nine different players to edge the Frog Pond 15-13. Brett Bucktooth of the Washington Stealth led St. Regis with two goals and three assists. Powless, who was an All-Rookie Team member for the Knighthawks, powered the Maulers with seven points. With its first loss of the Nations Cup, the Frog Pond fell into a second-place tie with a 1-1 record.
